We examine select cultural phenomena, challenging clichés of what is typically Bavarian or generally thought to be – from different dialects to famous architecture through diverse customs. “Bavarian born and bred but at home in the world!” This not only applies to many Bavarians but also to inventions that have found their way from Bavaria all over the world. We collectively examine what other countries associate with Bavaria and what unites the Free State with other countries. Retrace the footsteps of inventors, leading intellectuals and visionaries, who have made Bavaria famous and are still spreading “Bavaria brand” throughout the world.

Who is really in charge in Bavaria? Why is there no longer a king today? And what is a Free State in the first place? School students explore the most recent Bavarian history. We use select objects, events, individuals, media installations and activity stations on this dialogical guided tour to trace the development of democracy in Bavaria together and explain how it functions. Includes a vote in the original State Parliament of 1946!
